Hey Arnold Episode 112 (Das Subway)

On Saturday, we decided to try the subway system... We were going to meet a teacher from school at a bloco in downtown Rio. Her directions were to take the subway to the fifth stop and meet her as soon as we got off. However, the train never stopped at the fifth station! We thought it was a mistake, so we got off and tried to take the other line back to the fifth stop. The train continued to pass where we wanted to go. We were on the subway for about an hour trying to figure out what to do. At one point when we tried to get off, a giant mob of smelly, drunk people came dancing and shoving their way in so that we couldn't push through. I'm pretty sure they pushed so hard that I got picked up off the ground while wedged between them and carried to the back of the car. I almost thought we lost Beth because she got off of the train for a minute. The doors open and shut so quickly! Luckily some nice business-looking men could tell that we were struggling and slightly panicking, so they pulled us to the door so we could escape. Turns out that during Carnaval, some stops are closed so that the train only goes to places with blocos. The stop that we continued to get off at was actually the place we were supposed to go to all along! When we finally realized that, the bloco had already passed, so we went back to our neighborhood in Botafogo. Amazingly enough, there was another bloco randomly passing through that we got to enjoy. We also went to a very confusing restaurant. We kept trying to order drinks and food, but they only took one order at a time and everything came as small appetizers. It was delicious though! We cooled down from our hectic day at Ipanema beach. The ocean is beautiful even at night, and the beaches here NEVER CLOSE.
Locals hate these trees because the fruit is inedible and does damage to cars, but I think they're lovely

Can't get enough of these little guys :)
